L Unit

This conceptual project explores the two realities of living in today’s urban areas: human comfort in small living spaces and a vertical conglomeration of single-family modular units in a high-rise configuration.  In short, how can we achieve most comfort in small spaces, without sacrificing program needed for comfort.  The study challenges a typical shipping container as a physical perimeter for a generation of a comfortable housing unit.  Through exploration of minimum clearances needed for human movement, ergonomics, and space saving techniques the proposal achieves a

comfortable 1 bedroom apartment dwelling, which can be stacked vertically.

We use these ideas to help bring comfort and functionality to many small Manhattan dwellings.
